Magical Matariki

What is Matariki?

Matariki is a group of 7 stars. It is also the Maori new year. The stars appear in the sky in winter in late May or early June. When the stars appear again the moon has risen and it is the beginning of the Maori new year. The Matariki group of stars has other names as well. One the names is the 7 sisters. We celebrate Matariki in lots of different ways like catching kai moana. We forget and forgive people who have made us sad. We fly and make kites. We tell stories from the past.
