What makes a kite fly?

We wrote this piece of writing together as a class.
What makes a kite fly?

There are four forces that affect a kite when it is flying. They are gravity, lift, thrust, and drag.

Gravity is the force that keeps us on the ground. The heavier a kite is the harder it is to fly.

Lift is the force pushing the kite off the ground. Lift happens when air moves over the top of the kite at a faster speed than the air that is moving under the bottom of the kite.

The force that makes a kite move through the air is called thrust. Thrust happens with a kite when it is held in one place by its string, while the wind flows around the kite.

As air flows over the kite the wind gets held back a little by the roughness of the fabric. This friction is called drag.

Magical Matariki

What is Matariki?

Matariki is a group of 7 stars. It is also the Maori new year. The stars appear in the sky in winter in late May or early June. When the stars appear again the moon has risen and it is the beginning of the Maori new year. The Matariki group of stars has other names as well. One the names is the 7 sisters. We celebrate Matariki in lots of different ways like catching kai moana. We forget and forgive people who have made us sad. We fly and make kites. We tell stories from the past. We tell stories from the past.

Snow White and 7 Dwarfs

Once upon a time there lived a Queen. She lived in a faraway castle. She wished she got a baby girl. Her wish came true. She had a baby named Snow White. The Queen became ill and she died then the King remarried an Evil Queen. One day the King went off. The Evil Queen was happy. The Evil Queen asked the mirror, "mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?' The mirror replied "it is you". The Evil Queen asked the mirror again, 'mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" "Snow White is the fairest" said the mirror. The Evil Queen was angry. The Evil Queen got a huntsman to go and kill Snow White and bring her Snow White's heart in a box. So he went off to kill Snow White in the forest, but the Huntsman could not kill Snow White because she was kind. The Huntsman told Snow White to never come back to castle. The little birds took Snow White to a little cottage. She opened the door and when she got inside it was dirty. Snow White cleaned it up. First she cleaned the table so she could eat. Then she cleaned the table and then she fell asleep. The 7 dwarfs came in and saw how clean their house was. They went upstairs to their room and someone was sleeping in their beds! Snow White woke up. The dwarfs liked Snow White and they said she could stay with them but that she can't open the door to strangers. The dwarfs went to work. Someone knocked on the door and Snow White looked though the hole. She saw an old woman .... to be continued
